17 At Home Date Night Ideas

Spread the love

Recently, date nights have taken on a new challenge. Because of the implementation of social restrictions and concerns around bringing home illnesses, many couples are opting to spend their spare time at home rather than at their favourite restaurant or movie theatre. Even before the pandemic, getting a sitter was not always possible, so date night was not a major concern for many parents.

However, we all know how important date nights are to our relationships.

Date nights are important because they allow you to express your gratitude while also allowing you to unwind. They’re more than just ordering takeout or dining out at a great restaurant. They’re fearless and inventive, and they know how to reignite love for one another. However, there is only so much a pair can do during date evenings before it becomes monotonous and the enchantment fades. You’ve probably exhausted every notion you can think of, on top of the constraints of perhaps having children, a hectic schedule, and this pandemic, among other things.

In light of this, I’d like to suggest some date night ideas that you may not have considered. These are great to test at home, making them ideal not only for the pandemic but even afterward. Furthermore, these can save you a lot of money and inspire you to be more resourceful with what you already have, which I’m sure this pandemic has motivated us all to do.

Pro tip: if your date night plans allow it, don’t skip getting ready. Just because you’re not going anywhere doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look and feel your best. Prepare yourself as if you were about to go out! Obviously, this isn’t the best method for making a blanket fort or having a couples spa night, but putting in the extra work can help you adjust your mindset and get into the correct frame of mind.

  1. Have a Paper Airplane Competition

This is a must-have for your inner child. Use your imagination! Look up various aerodynamic designs on the internet, then decorate your plane and construct a runway. When you turn a simple task into an event, you’ll be astonished at how much fun it can be. A little healthy competition is also beneficial. Have a little fun with it and make some minor (maybe even spicy) bets!

2. Build a Lego Dream House

For the first time, Legos can be a friend rather than a threat. Clear a space and collaborate to construct your own home. It might even inspire future remodelling projects that you and your partner wish to do together. Maybe even think of your retirement home or that cabin you’ve always been talking about.

3. Give each other massages

All you’ll need is a towel and some oil for this affordable and personal experience. Because you’re not paying a stranger to rub down your body, having your significant other give you a massage is significantly less embarrassing. The Relax Therapeutic brand has a large selection of low-cost, high-quality massage oils to choose from.

4. Make a couple’s vision board

What are the objectives you aim to achieve as a couple? Get your hands on some Bristol board, magazines, and glue, and get to work! If you’re anything like me, you probably don’t have any magazines on hand. Good news: you can make digital vision boards using services like Canva (very easily). Send it to a local Staples for printing, and there you have it!

5. Create your bucket lists

Have you ever sat down and written out your biggest goals? When it comes to bucket lists, the sky is the limit. Compare and contrast yours with your partner’s to discover where they cross! You never know, it could lead to you and your partner arranging your next adventure.

6. Video game marathon

These days, there are a plethora of video games that allow for cooperative play. Some games need you to compete against one another, while others require you to work together as a team. Video games, on the other hand, are a pleasant way to bond with others. You and your companion are sure to find a game that you both enjoy.

7. Find a YouTube tutorial and try it out

It might be anything from learning to play an instrument to learning a new language to simply performing a duty around the house that you haven’t done before. YouTube contains videos for almost anything you can think of, so use that knowledge to teach your partner a new talent.

8. Draw portraits of each other

This is something my husband and I have done with our kids but you can do it on your own as well! Gather some dollar store canvases, glue, paint, or anything else you have on hand to do this project. Sit across from one other and let your imaginations go wild. This could be a lot of fun, especially if neither of you is really talented, it doesn’t matter. Just have fun with it!

9. Take an intro yoga or fitness class

Many people will have gained some weight during quarantine, and this is one way to ease back into activity. There has been a major push for live training routines as a result of the pandemic, but you can also find lots of training regimens on YouTube.

10. Learn a dance

This is something you’ll probably want to look up on YouTube. Have you ever wanted to learn how to dance the Salsa? Or how about the Waltz? A home date night is the ideal occasion to grab your partner and learn a new dance. You can always load up TikTok and see what dances all the cool kids are performing if you’re looking for something a little lighter or humorous. Have a good time!

11. Build a blanket fort

Remember when you were a child and you’d make a badass blanket fort in your room? I’ve got some good news for you. Now that you’re an adult, you can extend your blanket fort throughout the entire house if you like! Perhaps being a grownup isn’t so horrible after all.

12. Wine tasting at home

There are many different types of wine to choose from, and each one can provide a unique experience. Even if you don’t drink frequently, this can be an interesting occasion to try something new. Not to mention that wine can help you muster up the courage to speak to one another. You may, on the other hand, partake in a new trend of non-alcoholic beverages.

Try out these really fun wine tasting placemats to make the experience more authentic.

13. Tackle a DIY project

There is always some kind of project that the two of you could tackle, whether you live in an apartment or a house. It doesn’t have to do something major like rebuilding a room or painting a room, but tackling it as a group makes it lot more bearable.

14. Work on an indoor garden

While most people connect a garden with something outside, you may create your own indoor greenhouse. The main drawback is that you’ll be limited in what you can grow indoors, and you’ll need some additional equipment to get it all up and running.

Still, because it is a mindless – yet soothing – task, this is a nice pastime for the two of you to do together and might stimulate conversation.

15. Play some classic card games

Playing some classic card games is another fantastic at-home date night idea to try out. War, Rummy, Cribbage (assuming you have a Cribbage board), Crazy 8, Old Maid, and Go Fish were all entertaining as kids and are still fun as adults. Naturally, you’ll need a deck of cards, which are inexpensive and give hours of pleasure.

16. Work on a challenging puzzle

There are a plethora of puzzles available for adults to work on and finish. The goal for this date night is to select a puzzle that is challenging enough to take some time to complete. This 500-piece mosaic puzzle is one that I would recommend.

17. Write each other a love letter

Sitting down with a piece of paper and a pen, penning down the numerous qualities you admire in one another can remind you of why you fell in love in the first place. Despite the fact that love is complicated, there are generally multiple reasons why you love each other, and expressing them strengthens your bond.

Whatever you choose to do, take the time to spend a few moments together and reconnecting. If your schedule is so hectic that you can’t do many outdoor activities with your family, having an opportunity to do something fun indoors is always welcome. I strongly advise you to save this page as a bookmark and return to it whenever you need a refresher. Even better, give some of these a try this week!
